The South-West monsoon which mainly affects the southern, western and central regions during May–July, while the northeast monsoon brings rain to the north and east from November to January.
Sri Lanka’s population is 20.2 million. Sinhalese 74%, Tamils 18% Malays and Moors 7% Burghers and others 1%.
Major religion is Buddhism. Buddhists 69% Hindus 15% Christians 8% and Islam 8%.
Major exports are garments, gems stones, tea, rubber, coconut and textiles.
