Dambulla – Sigiriya Day Tour
We are proud to announce that Sigiriya and Dambulla Golden rock cave temple, two iconic landmarks of Sri Lanka, have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Sigiriya has also been nominated as the 8th Wonder of the World, making it a must-see destination for tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
Our Dambulla-Sigiriya day tour offers a comprehensive experience of these two magnificent sites, starting at 6 am from Colombo and taking approximately 4-5 hours to reach Dambulla.
Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located on a towering rock that stands more than 160m above the surrounding land. The caves were the refuge of King Walagamba (Vattagamini Abhaya) during his exile for 14 years. Upon his return to the throne in the 1st century BC, he had a magnificent rock temple built at Dambulla. The site has undergone repairs and repainting several times in the 11th, 12th, and 18th centuries. The caves house a mixture of religious and secular painting and sculpture, including several reclining Buddha's and frescoes on the walls and ceiling from the 15th-18th centuries.
Sigiriya, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a premier eco-tourism destination in Sri Lanka, designated as a cultural World Heritage Site in 1982. It is also proposed to be named the eighth wonder of the world, owing to its significance and beauty, which is on par with international wonders such as the Grand Canyon and Ancient Pyramids. Visitors can explore the ancient city of Sigiriya and marvel at the rock outcrop of the fortress itself, which rises an incredible 600 ft up from the green scrub jungle.
Our typical itinerary includes
Visit to Dambulla Cave Temple, followed by lunch at a recommended restaurant.
Then explore Sigiriya Rock Fortress, built by King Kashyapa as his palace during the 5th Century.
The tour ends with a transfer back to Colombo, taking approximately 4 - 5 hours.
